Hey, Mini, you should drop on over to Groklaw some time:
"Ooh, ooh, the bogeyman is gonna getcha with his stupid patents. Or maybe not."

PJ's perspective on Microsoft's chances in a software Patent fight ... is rather different to yours, obviously.

Share and Enjoy!

Stolen! All *stolen*! - New comment on Pre-Town Hall, Posters, and Micronews.

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Pre-Town Hall, Posters, and Micronews":

MINI SAID: "I'd appreciate Mr. Ballmer taking this chance to hit the reset button and go over major changes in what we value in this company."

You can't be that naive, Mini. Let me give you a quote to tell you where Mr. Ballmer's head is at the moment in regards to hitting the reset button:

"What's fair is fair," Ballmer told Fortune. "We live in a world where we honor, and support the honoring of, intellectual property."

If he thinks he is going to win on any of those 235 patents by waging some kind of proxy fight, man, I have to say, bring it on. Starting with resetting Microsoft back to the original lawsuit over its interface between Apple and MS. That is settled law, and Microsoft does not own the interface, and it cannot claim it does.

Heck, just the revised file sorting system in Vista is stolen like everything else Microsoft does.
Gawd, this is great stuff. I can't wait for this fight to kick in.

(I guess we might see what is stolen and what is not.)

Hard Work and Money - New comment on MicroYa! and Thinking About a Big Reboot.

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "MicroYa! and Thinking About a Big Reboot":

I agree with the poster who pointed out that it's all about the money. With the time I put in, I feel sad when I see that electricity utility line workers net more than me if they work comparable hours: link.

Not to belittle their contributions, but honestly advising the kids that "if you want to earn serious money, you should not spend years getting a degree in CS but become a line worker" strikes me as a good indicator that we need to review our salary policies.

(Become a line work and hope for a windstorm? Two comments came in about the money those hard worker line workers pulled down. Hey, more power to them. A lot of work needed to be done and I was getting tired myself of going on a week without power. A warm house and lights? Priceless.)

Writing History One Way or Another - New comment on MicroYa! and Thinking About a Big Reboot.

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "MicroYa! and Thinking About a Big Reboot":

"What happened to MS? How did we go from the scrappy little company who took down big bad monopolistic IBM to the home of unsexy, bloated, and buggy products and mediocre whiners?"

This implies that MS actually WAS a company that made sexy, unbloated and bug free products. Here's a clue for you, MS has ALWAYS made crappy products. Stop trying to re-write history. Hell, at least today MS actually makes some products that I would safely consider good. Back then? Hell no.

Cost of Vista:

http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.html

(This would have been a great article to read if the author could have contained their strong anti-MSFT stance peppered through-out the text. Little things like zinging about XP's color scheme. What does that have to do with an investigation into the impact of Vista DRM? I can't take it seriously, though I'd like to.)
