Microsoft needs more PMs. You know what, PM gives vision. Look at Win7, what a product PMs did. Looks at IE. Looks at Office. All PMs. Dev is overhyped. Volt can do that work.

is the last poster serious? how long has this person been a PM? I have worked in both disciplines and I can tell you as a PM I can dream up 1000 ideas a week and will focus on a few worth driving forward but without developers they're just thoughts, words on paper. The vast majority of developers I've had the priveledge of working with often have as much or more insight about how the product should work than their PM did. We shouldn't be cutting dev short. I believe the products that person mentioned came through a lot of hard work and collaboration between many disciplines not just PM & Dev to make them successful. I would hope your poster would recognize the success of a release isn't just because they wrote a great spec. come on people, we're in this together.

As an SDET, I always participate in the design of a feature, and my input is always taken very seriously.
Building successful products require all disciplines working together.
